Originally by: Cerrian When freighters first came out it was predicted that they would dominate the NPC trade market and nudge out the smaller guys while making obscene amounts of isk. Now I've seen the obscene isk being made in a few hours, something like 350-500 mill on a 3 hour trip, but I'm not too sure what the impact has been on the other traders and particularly the noobs trying to enter the NPC trade market.
Is there a problem here? With freighters uncommon today, were those predictions just unfounded hysteria or were they somehow on the mark?
More unfounded rhetoric from someone who doesn't have one and would like them nerfed because of it.
Some facts for you,
1. The market is DYNAMIC. Yes, DYNAMIC. Two years ago the market was changed so supply and demand were no longer infinite. You will find the market will adjust continuously to people buying and selling trade in any quanties. And yes ive done 27 jumps in a freighter only to have the market change on me while docking and a happy indy undocking.
2. Frieghters are SLOW You can beat any freighter along the same trade route in a transport ship or indy and still have time to spare on the way back to laugh at them travelling at thier 0.8 au a second. Ever aligned to a gate in a freighter? It's a good time to make a cup of tea.
3. There is more than 1 trade route in EVE! The people that make some money doing trade have taken the time to explore that area of the game. Just like mining theres more than one asteroid!!! Just like NPC hunting theres more than one NPC, just like Missions theres more than one agent!!!
People who do well at trading have invested time in the skills to increase thier profits and effort in finding routes which people dont bother with, are too afraid of or have overlooked. If you follow everyone else along the same routes of course you wont make much isk. Heres a hint, some of the best buy orders are in low sec where griefers live.
4. Freighters carry freight! Yes thats their purpose, to carry stuff, hence thier cost, speed and price. A battleships purpose is to shoot things, you dont see me whining about its superiority to NPC farm. Ships all have roles and purposes.
So in closing can we stop vilifying freighters and thier capabilities out of envy from those that a) can't afford one or b) are not trade savvy enough to compete.
Tbh the whining is quite pathetic and really annoying. If you want a trade route just ask but dont go seeking condemnation for those that are succesful at what they do.
